Sarcophagas of Harkhebit
Dynasty 26 (664-525 B.C.)
This massive sarcophagas lay inside a huge limestoine box at the bottom of a square pit some 50 feet deep.Into it was placed a wood coffin containing Harkhebit's mummy. After burial, the pit was filled with sand.
Harkhebit's name and titles, and the names of his parents, are given in the large band of hieroglyphics on the body. The lid has representations of funerary deities and protective spells, including Chapter 72 of the Book of the Dead.
